I've been following Solo Stove since then and put the Mesa Accessory Pack on my wish list. I've been starting to have an eye for getting a Bonfire. Well my wife got me the Bonfire kit with stand and pellet adapter from Costco and my kids got me the Mesa Accessory Pack. This is the perfect addition to the Mesa, so when it is colder I can have the larger fire. My wife likes the heat of the fire, but doesn't like the smoke. We tested it on New Years and it works as well as it says. And yes, it burns really hot. The grandkids loved making Smores over the Bonfire as much as they did over the Mesa.”

“I can’t say enough great things about the Solo Stove Company and their staff. A few days ago I noticed that my bonfire was smoking and my secondary burn was diminished. Looking further I discovered that a section of the ash pan had slipped down and was blocking the holes. I contacted a representative and he suggested that I fill out the warranty form as the stove was guaranteed for life. Can you imagine in this crazy world we live in anything being guaranteed for life? This company stands behind every product they make. Within hours of my claim I received an email stating that I had met the criteria for a full replacement. This morning I got another email that my new stove would be here tomorrow, three days from the start of my warranty. Thank you Solo Stove, Paulette and Victor for all your help and your never ending exceptional customer service. We have been seasonal campers in Lake George, New York. We were the first to purchase a smokeless fire pit and told our friends about how much we loved it. 4 of our closest friends jumped onboard and love their stoves just as much as we do. Perhaps some of the new color coated fire pits fair better against the discoloration. Overall, I would recommend this product.”

After the fire is started it is truly smokeless and great for our firepit needs. We even had neighboring campers ask us about it so we got to brag on it again. My only negative was in order to empty the stove you had to physically turn it upside down and bang on it to get all the ashes out. Solo Stove fixed that with the Bonfire 2.0 with the removeable ash pan! I immediately purchased a 2.0 and a surround and placed it on our deck. We love it and it gets regular use. I still use my older Bonfire 1.0 for camping. I highly recommend Solo Stove fire pits as a good value and investment in outdoor entertainment.”

“The smokeless technology is very cool and a big plus. The metal sides however make the deflector necessary to spread the heat which makes the basic price pretty high. There is also the stand which depending on how you use it is necessary- at an additional cost. Finally, because you need to let the fire die out on its own, the lid also becomes essential- again raising the price higher. One last thing to mention is that you need shorter than standard firewood. This is a consideration. Having said all this, once you get everything working properly it really is the bomb! And VERY cool looking to boot. When the pandemic started I started singing out in my front yard once a week. Neighbors and friends started joining in and we’ve been at it for 3 years. Even in Culver City it gets chilly in the winter and we’ve used traditional fire pits and propane restaurant heaters but the Bonfire wins hands down!!”

Most likely due to the fact it’s double walled, it’s not gonna keep you warm unless the fire is VERY large and above the lip of the pit. Do yourself a favor and buy the heat deflector! “I finally decided to get the bonfire after my old cheap pit rusted out and I experienced some solo stoves walking through a neighborhood looking at Christmas lights. I like how easy it is to clean with the removable ash pan. Setup and starting the fire is simple and it definitely burns hotter than my old pit. Roasting marshmallows to a golden perfection took far less time than with traditional pits. The one accessory I may consider picking up is the heat deflector. You definitely feel the heat when up close but if you sit further away the heat definitely does not travel as well as more open pits.”

“I was hesitant to believe the hype about solo stoves and went back and forth on buying one for about a year. I worried about little things like whether it would rust, if I would actually use it, and having a fire on my porch (I have a townhome with lots of neighbors). I’m so glad I finally made the decision to go for it and get one. Set up was super easy. From unpacking (shipping was fast and flawless) to a raging fire took about 15 mins. I used some kindling, one fire starter and some birch wood. The results were amazing. Got a beautiful secondary burn after about 25 mins. I’ve never been great at lighting a fire, but this was very easy. Brought my wife and 7&5 year olds out by the fire and told stories about Christmas when I was a kid. It was a great time and the fire kept us warm on a chilly northeast November night. I’ve had 5 more burns since then. Once for Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve while we entertained, and although my back porch isn’t that big, it made for a perfect setting where people loved gathering around. I also love sitting by it and reading on my kindle and having a drink or two. Recently I bought the pellet adapter for wood pellets. What a game changer. Dumping in a 40lb bag of pellets, 3 fire starters, and a clean worry free burn that lasts about 2.5-3 hours. I did this mainly for safety because sometimes a lot would pop and an ember would fly out at me or my kids. I didn’t want to drop the money on a shield, and the pellets are cheap and easy to store. Cleanup is really easy. There’s barely any ash after a burn and I just dump it in the garden. I bought the lid, which is a great addition. I love my solo stove and you will too!”

Although the side is hot there is not enough heat to below the top of the ring. But your knees will be plenty hot for sure. Second, not that easy to clean. A little bulky to turn over. However, I'm not so sure that's necessary. It burns so clean and hot there's not much ash left. I've burned for or five fires before tipping it over. And not so sure it was needed. Tip- buy the top cover for it. It keeps the rain out. I still need to get that. Oh, one more thing, I wish it had a handle or two on the outside wall. Would be easier to pick up.”

No Smoke, so no Firepit Simon Says

“I love being around a firepit on a cold night, but I do not enjoy having to regularly rotate around the fire trying to find an open chair where the smoke is not blowing in your face. And I hate me and my clothes smelling like smoke at the end of the night. I've only had one fire in my Solo Bonfire since I got it, but it was easy to start, and smokeless after it got going. I got it with the pellet adapter, because I knew I could always get wood pellets if I couldn't find any wood out back. That also made it very easy to start. I just buried two, small fire starters that I got at a local retailer where I also got the wood pellets. I lit those to start the pellets and went inside. In about twenty minutes I had a full, smokeless fire. The heat generated is not as much as a regular fire pit, probably because of the shape is not parabolic, and the firepit opening is so high. If you have four people around it and are fairly close you get a good amount of heat up high, but not much on your your legs or feet. Also, sitting that close was a little intimidating at first because of the height of the flames over the rim. It would not be as good with a lot of people in a circle around it. Nice to look at, and no smoke, but not enough warmth. Someone I know said they have the heat deflector. They said that's a game changer because it spreads the heat down low and in a much larger circle. I may get one at one point, but it's much too expensive now. The fire pit was on sale, and while still high, I could justify it at that price. But, the heat deflector is about 75% of the cost of what I paid for the Bonfire. If the heat deflector goes on a significant sale (40 to 50%) I will get one.”

“I’m incredible happy with the construction and quality of my Bonfire. The gauge of steel is more than I anticipated along with outstanding welding and polishing. All the components have high tolerance dimensions and fit perfectly. Very impressed with the quality. As a result, it looks great. It just does. And if you build a proper fire, the reduction in smoke is absolutely true and so welcomed! I was torn on the Bonfire vs. Yukon not being overly experienced in prior fire pits, I think the Bonfire is plenty large enough for 4-5 people. I think the amount of wood for a good fire in the Yukon would have been too much for my needs. I got a lid and outdoor cover that are high quality and fit also. I’ve not gotten additional tools or the screen , but I will next season now knowing they’ll be high-end. Delivery was crazy fast. Enough…just say I’m pleased.”

It works and smokeless after the fire has started

“I was in doubt that the solo stove will be smokeless and burn woods better than a regular fire pit, but it does. There will be some smoke when you try to start the fire, but once the fire is started, the smoke is gone. It really burns all the woods to ash unlike other fire pits. I give it four stars for the high cost, and you cannot feel the heat below you knees unless you buy the heat deflector which cost almost the same as a gas heater. The heat deflector should be included with the bonfire.”

Is not smokeless... if your wood is not dry, or good quality, there will be smoke. But once it gets really going nice and hot, the smoke goes away. But the design is great and I love how the wood burns completely to ash when done (although again, wood quality is important!). Would appreciate some more included tips for maintenance. Yes, I understand it is stainless steel and is made to be outdoors and used. But some easy care tips to make the patina a little more even would be nice.”

“Even with the deflector you have to be within 8 inches to feel anything. And since you need to have it filled and burning like a jet engine, a slight wind can sear your eyebrows right off. After having a roaring fire in it for a while the pit itself gets warm only to the touch. The smokeless part is nice, still a smell on clothes and hair but not like a ground fire. The "efficient" burn design is good for completely going thru logs BUT you go thru them fast! It's OK. I use it often but I think its how I justify this regrettable purchase. Next time I'm gonna get a propane tower or similar”
