“The Ranger isn’t too small! If you’re on the fence about the different sizes I would 100% recommend starting with the Ranger! The Bonfire is great and all but it isn’t as mobile so it just sits outside as our home fire pit. My Uncle has the Yukon and it is HUGE! We take the Ranger camping, to the beach, (inside the patio on raining days 🤫) and to friends houses. You won’t be disappointed. I don’t have a stand and that’s my only regret. You will definitely want one of those.”

The Mesa was placed on a low folding aluminum table and that was the perfect height for enjoying the flame and warmth. Clean up is easy and the storage bag is so convenient to place all needed items in a bag and on the shelf, ready to go for the next fire. Make sure to get some welding gloves to handle/move stuff around. I've taken this to beaches, homes, sidewalks etc and even without the stand out did not damage the ground. I have lit fires with a single match using newspaper. The design of the solo stove is fantastic and burns practically smokeless. Who doesn't enjoy a live fire AND not burn your eyes out with little smoke. The Ranger SS has been fun add to my hangouts - we even manage to cook, grill and stir fry.”

“My wife and I like to camp but we are not fans of crowded campgrounds. Most of our camping is off grid, we have a small VW westy camper so we have limited space. The Ranger fire pit is small enough to fit on the luggage rack and not not so heavy as to be a problem lifting it on and off. There is rarely a fire pit at the places we choose to set up and with the Ranger you don't need one. We use ours to cook on also, right now we just use a grate of a barbecue grill set on top. It works decent, but you have to let the coals really burn down or it's too hot. We will eventually get solo's grill setup, I think that will work much better. At pack up time you just empty the ashes, stick it in their included storage bag and your off to the next campsite. This would also be great as a deck fire pit, if that ware the only reason for buying it though, I would get one of the bigger units. I would not hesitate to purchase this again.”

Perfect for smokeless camping

“We are avid boondock campers. We pride ourselves in leaving campsites cleaner than when we arrive and that includes fire rings. That is the main reason we purchased the Solo Ranger along with the base, lid and pellet insert. Everything packs in to the very nice tote that Solo provides. Quality and workmanship is excellent and the stainless finish gets a nice, bronzed patina with use. With the pellet insert, we can take a bag of pellets and not have to worry about hitch hiking insects into different States as you would with firewood. Plus, the Solo fire pit along with the pellet insert is nearly sparkless as well as smokeless which makes for a more responsible campfire especially in dry conditions. Pellets are widely available as well, so a quick stop at a big box home improvement store or local feed or hardware store will get you 3 or 4 nights worth of camp fires. With pellets, the fire is easier to start and you will get a significant amount of flame and heat. Adding pellets to prolong the fire is tricky, so you will probably want to just over estimate and the amount of pellets and go from there. Overall, we are extremely happy with the purchase. “I won a ranger in a raffle from a company I work with that is not very local. I did not have a receipt for it and when I got home I found the ranger dented in the box. I knew I did not have the ability to warranty it because of that so I tried to pull the dent out but alas it was creased and not coming out. I emailed support for any advice on methods for fixing it and included the pictures of the issue and they emailed me back asking for my address and sent me a brand new one! What incredible customer service. This was my first product of theirs and I think Solo stove has found a lifetime customer! So very pleased!”

“We like our new stove! We got it to take rafting, because it meets most river requirements in terms of size. It’s light and portable, easy to pack! The only downside is that it’s a bit short to fit typical firewood in without it poking out. Our goal was to eliminate some of the “mess” a traditional fire pan can create, but we need to figure out a way to cut the cord of wood we got to shorter lengths. Other than that, love it so far! Super warm and we have been enjoying it on our patio with all of this cold Spring weather.”

“Puts out quite abut of heat from a small stack of wood! Using standard cut wood I find I need to cut the wood in half because a 6” piece of wood is the best size. So it takes some prep work before loading wood. Requires just a few pieces of kindling to get a roaring fire going. Would be nice if Solostove provided a guide for wood size for each stove. The diameter listed is the OUTSIDE not the size for the logs. You can sit close and enjoy the heat and dancing swirling flames without any smoke.”

It's the perfect size for the backyard, as well as for travel. I love the travel bag it came with. There was little residual ash, it burned to clean, and no smoke! (In the past my neighbor has mentioned the smoke of others' fires bothering his allergies), so I was pleasantly surprised that this stove made such a strong, bright fire yet with no smoke getting in our eyes. Often I smell a fire on my clothes the next day, but there wasn't any smell on my winter coat. Just a lovely memory or a beautiful star-filled birthday evening!”

In order to use this you would have to cut your firewood pieces in half so they don’t stick out of the top. This would not be convenient when bringing this solo stove to campgrounds. It also is well made and durable. The only thing that is difficult sometimes is finding firewood that is short enough because you cannot have it sticking out of the top of the Solo Stove. But, the Ranger is small compared to the Bonfire and Yukon size. Customer service was outstanding. I picked up my Ranger in their beautiful showroom. I like that they now come in colors.”

Setup the Ranger 2.0 within seconds. Placed three or four mini oak and mini hickory logs in the Solo Stove Ranger 2.0. Put a few smaller pieces of wood underneath and lit them. The fire started right up and within 15 minutes the Solo Stove Ranger was keeping several of our guests nice and toasty. The fire was beautiful to watch. I had to go inside several times to get more s’mores and my wife said, “I can’t believe you have a fire going out there, I can’t even smell smoke on you.” I have used the Solo Stove Ranger 2.0 several times now and I am satisfied and want to use it again soon.”

“We looked at these for awhile and were trying to decide between this smaller and the medium size. Because we are not campers (and don't hang outside that often), we decided to go with the ranger since we thought we might get more use from it because of its portability. But I was concerned about how much warmth it would give, etc. So we tried it on Halloween night. We used a starter and had a fire in 1-2 minutes. In 5 minutes we had a ROARING fire!! It provided lots of warmth and was beautiful to watch. We got so many inquires and compliments from families in our neighborhood! It was also easy to manage--as the fire lessened, we added just a single log to bring it back to a roar. My last concern was how long would it take for it to go out so we could move the unit back into our garage after trick or treating was over. To my surprise, this process was very quick--maybe 20 or 30 minutes. We got the stand so it wouldn't scorch our driveway (which it didn't). I would recommend getting the lid and some log tools (that's our plan). Oh and while my husband initially mocked the "smokeless" description of this pit, he later marveled at the lack of smoke!! Honestly, our clothes did not smell of smoke whatsoever! Love this unit.”

“I love solo products because of the following reasons: Quick startup Containment of fire and mess Efficiency of wood consumption You can get into and out of a great fire in no time. It’s one thing if you’re having a party with friends and will do a five hour fire, but if you just want a quick one hour, watch the sunset and go inside, this is the best part. You don’t have to worry about the wind blowing embers around and starting fires. Get a hub! I already had a bunch of cast iron cookware so I didn’t need the griddles or grills but the hub is great because I can cook a huge pan of gumbo or jambalaya or chili from the roux to the end and add wood without moving the iron. Hot tip: use good wood, use dry wood, use the right size wood. I have a Ranger and a Camp stove. I give Solo’s as gifts of appreciation when folks help me out, but won’t accept money, I just send it to their house. Been full time RVing for the past year, but just landed back in a house on some property. Will be getting the whole Bonfire setup for my outdoor kitchen in December. Great stuff, keep it up!”

Solo Ranger - pretty darn good

“The ranger is made of elegant stainless steel and well built. It definitely does what it claims, produce an almost smokeless fire so long as your logs stay below the top vents. It’s small size made it easy to transport for my car camping trip. I give it 4 out of 5 stars for a few reasons. One, you need to cut standard logs in half for them to fit in this small fire pit. That’s a lot of work, especially if you bring it out in the middle of nowhere. I pre-cut 5 days of logs to go boondocking. Two, it isn’t all that warm. You have to get really close to it to feel warmth. The plus is that getting close feels cozy and intimate with a buddy. Three, it could benefit from a handle or indentation to make it easier to carry. I gripped it by its smoky ring. Nevertheless, I really enjoy the Ranger and expect to get many many years of use out of it. I recommend it with these caveats.”
