Great desk with assembly caveats

“The desk is very nice looking and spacious. As almost everyone else mentioned, assembly is time-consuming, but it went well for me. A couple of things to know: One of the diagonals from the back leg to the table was about 1/4" short. The dowels connecting the diagonal into the table top got into the table top, but just barely. The screw holding it in place was inadequate. Between the screw being small and short, it began to strip out the material it was screwing into underneath the tabletop. So the diagonal is just barely in place. The good thing is that all the back pieces--the diagonals and the horizontal that spans them are not structural. They are just cosmetic, so their inadequacies don't compromise the desk. The screws that fasten the horizontal pieces that connect the front and back legs seem to start stripping out the material (I would say wood, but it's not real wood) if you're aggressive in screwing them in at all. Fortunately that should not compromise the structure of the table. And finally, the way that the screw holes for the drawer handles are countersunk into the wood, the screws shipped with the furniture are about 1/4" too long. There are several ways to deal with this. 1 get a screw cutter and cut the shipped screws to proper length--not recommended 2 put a washer on the screw so that it doesn't fall in the hole--easiest if you have washers 3 buy 8-32 screws that are 1/4" shorter--see below The problem with 1 and 3 is that the screws they ship aren't exactly standard 8-32. They're very, very close, but a tiny bit smaller than standard. So cutting the screw with a standard 8-32 screw cutter may damage the screw and make it unusable. And replacing the screw with a standard 8-32 screw means that you'll be trying to put a standard screw into a slightly small hole. It won't feel right. It will work, but it will feel like you're damaging the handles. I picked this route because the screw went into the countersink and did not intrude into the drawer. I'm satisfied with the desk. It seems a much better choice than anything else in the price range. I have no idea how the manufactured wood of the surface will wear in the long run, but it seems very nice and sturdy at the moment.”

“I just purchased this desk and I am highly disappointed. The instructions are poorly labeled with numbers and letters which make it confusing. The screws will not go into the wood because there are no pre drilled holes. After about 30 minutes, I finally got 1 horizontal piece into the leg but while trying to screw in the other leg, the screw snapped out and now the hole is twice the size so the screw will not go back in. This desk is awful if you have to put it together yourself. Now I'm stuck with firewood for $400, I'll never buy a desk that has slanted pieces like this ever again.”

The desk is a little tall for anyone shorter than 6 feet (and I'm not really short - 5'8"), but I kind of expected that since all desks are made that tall these days. The desk came packaged pretty well (only one ding, and that was on the back corner and easily touched up with a wood touch-up marker), it was an excellent price for all real wood, and it looks very nice in my office. Tall desk we had been looking for

“We purchased this desk after looking for a long while. We are both quite tall (5'11" and 6'7") and wanted a desk with a high top. This desk is great! The drawers are convenient as well. Would give 5 stars if the assembly instructions had actually indicated which cross beam needed to go on the right and left, as we had to spend an extra 20 minutes undoing the work we had done to assemble the legs. Make sure you get the legs installed correctly before you put in the wood screw to secure everything! Overall, construction took about 1.5 hours. Also, would recommend having a drill with an extra-long bit to install the wood screws to finish. Made the process much faster.”
