Some tips on assembling the bookcase.

“Once assembled, the shelves look great! However, the instructions have a mistake in them that you should be aware of when assembling this shelf. It will save you some time spent scratching your head. On the 1st step, it shows to put the connecting rod labeled "D" in the top slot. However, it needs to go into the slot below that as the lower slot has no hole in it and neither those the "D" rod. If "D" is put on the top slot, then you can't attach the screw. So put rod "C" at the top and "D" below it. Also, the threading in 3 of the holes easily stripped out and the screws wouldn't tighten appropriately. So I had to just barely tighten them. Despite this, the shelving is solid and doesn't wobble. Next, the wood patterns on the unfinished bottoms of a couple of the shelves don't look so great so I advise you to inspect them prior to attaching them. Then put the less attractive ones on the bottom tiers so you don't have to see them. Since I was putting this together by myself, I lassembled all of the metal structure first, then slid the shelves into place afterwards. Then I tightened down all of the screws. So although the build wasn't a ton of fun, I like the end result!”

The problems encountered were (a) one metal stand didn't have drilled hole in one area, to connect screw into the shelf. (b) There were two areas where the metal holes didn't line up with the holes of the wood shelf. I am hoping the metal stand underneath will hold it. (c) As I tighten the screw from metal to wood, the glue that holds the wood together seems to slowly come off, so what I did was not tighten it up too much hoping it won't give in. Nice but it didn't serve my purpose. And tooo big/heavy to return.”

I was able to use a stain pen to cover most of them. Some scratches on the metal frame, not much I could do about that. It was very difficult to assemble. Holes in the metal frame did not line up with the holes in the shelves. We ended up just not screwing some areas together for fear of cracking the shelves. It is a pretty shelf and I like it, but next time I would purchase at the store and pay the $115 to have it assembled.”

The materials are not high quality. Had I seen this in person, I would not have purchased it for this price. It does seem sturdy and looks nice from across the room. The metal frame has a painted surface to make it look bronze like. The shelves are light weight pressed veneer with a heavily applied stain.”

“First of all this bookcase is made of great quality wood and metal. It is huge so you can really put a lot of books and decor on it. It can also be used to keep boxed items if you have a home business very functional and beautiful. I use it to keep books and some decor. The trick to assembling this is to don't tighten the screws until you can get them all placed in. It will give the shelf more flexiblity to move to the direction it needs to go so that the other screws can be put into place. It may seem like the holes don't line up if you tighten them down to early in assembly. Worth the price. I will have many years of enjoyment with this one.”

“Well we certainly wanted to love it, but there are issues with this shelving unit. Primarily the build and shipment quality. We received the first unit with 3 broken shelves, a hardware package that was split and hardware all over the box. The packaging was damaged and I took 22 photos of the damaged box in order to reach out to customer service for assistance. Customer service was decent and arranged to ship us out 3 new shelves, a new package of hardware and one plastic frame leg insert that had broken in the original shipment as well. They did not provide any information on the shipment, so when it finally showed up we were excited to complete the installation of the entire unit. Well, we received 3 shelf units. One was usable, one was broken at the shelf rail edge facing front and one was so poorly made I got 3 splinters just getting it out of the box. Needless to say, we don’t recommend this unit if the manufacturer in Vietnam cannot produce and package them properly.”
