Looks fine- not the most functional piece.

“It’s fine. We purchased two. The first came in good condition- the second came with a couple small ships. We don’t have time to bother with a return. On the one without chips- the drawer does not run smoothly. I expect this from an old piece of furniture- but not when you purchase something brand new. You have to really force it to open. My child cannot open it independently. My husband looked at it repeatedly to ensure proper installation- it still does not open or close properly.”

Good Looks But Awful Construction

“While the finished product does look nice, it was awful assembling the drawer part of the unit. The switch latches all forced themselves open and I had to come up with other methods of keeping the drawer together. It barely cooperated with the sliding track to pull it out either.”

“Love this bookshelf! Perfect size for my space and looks like the same exact style (albeit in a slightly darker stain, but that actually worked out better to match some other pieces I have!) as the one I originally ordered from west elm that was double the price and never showed up after almost two months. Ashley got it here in a week, with free shipping and the quality of the bookshelf seems great so far. Couldn’t be happier!”

Cheap veneer shelving that chips, unhelpful customer service for replacing the damaged piece.

“I purchased this bookcase back in March, thinking it'd be a nice alternative to the West Elm Mid-Century Bookshelf w/drawer. Unfortunately, the shelf right above the storage drawer had chipping on the veneer.
Now, I'm going to sound like a Karen who's had one too many Proseccos during a daytime Judge Judy sesh, but sometimes you just need to drop a 1-star review to get some PR rep to make things right.
So, let's get to it. I contacted customer service to get a new part, and after doing the whole rigamarole of long hold times and exchanging personal information that was probably sold to who-knows-how-many third parties, a new shelf was soon to be on its way. Except it never arrived. Queue dramatic chipmunk music. (And yes, I know that was a prairie dog. Don't correct me.)
The rep I spoke with over email told me I'd be receiving an email with tracking information for the replacement shelf, but they never sent it. Now, I live in an apartment and don't check the package area unless I'm expecting something. So after waiting a month, assuming the package was being held up due to the Tariff Wars, I reached out again to customer service who finally emailed me the tracking code. Unbeknownst to me, the original replacement package was delivered a week after I filed the original claim. Of course, when I went to the package area of my apartment, it wasn't there. It was probably stolen. Is this my fault? Maybe. But who would check for a package they didn't expect to come because the rep who said "Will have tracking in the coming days" never actually followed through?
I contacted customer service again about another replacement, got referred to the same person who was supposed to send the original tracking information, but I never got a replacement part.
Long story short: don't buy this cheap bookshelf. It will probably arrive chipped and then you'll spend too much time back and forth trying to get a replacement. Buy the real thing at West Elm.”

False advertising - not a solid wood item

“The details and description for this item are horribly misleading, and inaccurate. It says “made of birch wood” with a “walnut veneer.” It is, in fact, made of MDF with some pieces (maybe the legs) made of birch wood, with a melamine walnut colored veneer. Its false advertising. Also, our package seems to have been contaminated with loose fiberglass fibers, which is a big problem.”

“The piece is extremely sturdy and well made. However the actual instructions for assembly are not particularly clear and you need more than one person to help put together. The drawer assembly ends with an extremely stable piece but it’s very hard to assemble.”
