Inconsistent build quality and cosmetic damage

“I purchased 2 of these to go with my Starmore bed. The look is beautiful - exactly as expected, and the cement / stone center feels nice. The drawers have a smooth pull. The outlets are convenient and the cord is long. Even though I measured everything out, it was bigger than I expected - this is so wide that I can't reach the far end of the nightstand from my bed. In the future, I might prefer something with a little more depth, rather than width. My more serious concerns are about build quality. Many critical pieces in the construction are made of MDF and not real wood; the unit as a whole is quite light and doesn't feel particularly strong. One of my nightstands came with significant imbalance - nearly a half-inch difference in length between one of the legs. There was an error in assembly early in the process, leading to many pieces not being joined together correctly. I guess this is why they include risers. I also noticed that both nightstands featured identical cosmetic damage - a series of small (.1 inch wide, .5 inch long) gashes in the wood. Not enough to put me off, but still very strange and might bother some folks. Lastly, the outlet in one of them was loose - the MDF had given out and I had to glue it back together myself. Overall, this was not what I expected for the price. This is definitely not "forever" furniture; a step above entry-tier and it looks great, but expect some imperfections.”

Starmore Night Stand from Ashley Furniture

“This was the second night stand I have bought. The first one is well made and it does what I wanted because it has the outlets which makes it very convenient to charge phones and connect lights and alarm clock. The second night stand arrived quickly after ordering and no external damage was noted. Unfortunately the upper drawer was poorly assembled at the factory. When I tried to open the drawer I noticed it was hard to pull so I took it out completely to look at it. The slide section on the drawer was missing all the screws, they had fallen out at some point. I used a liquid adhesive to shore up the screw holes and reinstalled the screws. Also for some reason the slide section that attaches to the drawer frame had two shims installed at the inner sections of frame that are used to support the slide. I pulled the shims out, retightened the screws and installed the whole assembly back. It works perfect now. I think someone was having a bad day at the office and I'd still buy another night stand if I was in the market for one. It's a very nice piece of furniture for a fair price.”

Insert on table top is inferior. A single drop of water was wiped away as soon as it fell, but a stain remains. Will likely replace top with own material.”
