“Firm but still has some give and lots of comfy cushion. Edge is great to sit on and don't have to worry about it not bouncing back...it does every time! Delivery was a breeze and didn't even have a smell like had been in plastic ( have very sensitive nose). Best sleep in a while and all night long...no middle of night roaming to get kinks out of back before can lay down again. Haven't been tossing and turning as much thru night either.”

“I looked at reviews for mattresses that would fit my sleeping habits and all of the “10 ten” mattresses were ones that you had to buy online. If I ordered one and loved it then no problem. If I hated it then the hassle of returning it would begin. As a result of this I looked around in the stores where I live. I had heard of Stearns & Foster but I figured that they were out of my budget league. I tried the Estate out at 3 different stores along with other brands and kept coming back to the Estate medium tight top. Once I made my selection everything flowed after that. Delivery, setup, and removal of old mattress. The guys were wonderful. As for the mattress…. I’ll admit it was “strange” the first night since I had been sleeping in valleys in my old mattress. Once I got to sleep I didn’t wake up all night! It was firm (medium) but very comfortable. The top mattress does weight significantly more than my old one so I will likely have to get help spinning it periodically. All in all…👍🏻”

“My husband and I recently had a supposed “ 10 year mattress” go bad in 3 years, so we decided to try this. So far, it’s been amazing. The first several nights it felt too firm, but after about a week, it has become the most comfortable bed that I’ve ever slept on.
The mattress is very thick and heavy duty, which means that we have to get deeper sheets, and the corners that are beside the nightstands are difficult to lift when putting on the fitted sheet because the mattress is so heavy.
Overall, fantastic purchase and highly recommended.”

Well made but runs a bit hot

“This year, my husband and I have been going through the mattress saga yet again. We are a side sleeper (me) and a back sleeper (him), both of us not exactly lightweight but under 200 pounds each. We tried the Estate mattress in Soft, but while I found it really comfortable after a break-in period of about 6 weeks, it didn't work for him--too soft, gave him sciatica--and I was also worried that my side would grow unsupportive over time.
So we got the same Stearns and Foster Estate mattress in Medium instead. We've had it about two months and I can feel it's supportive and durable. My lower back is supported well and my upper back/shoulder blades--formerly a major pain point for me as a side sleeper--is no longer experiencing pain, as long as I use a pillow that isn't too lofty. (Regardless of what any sleep website may tell you, I believe there is no standard correct height for a side sleeper pillow--the "right pillow" loft changes depending on the mattress surface, and it takes trial and error to figure this out for each person.)
Overall: I like the Estate Medium and I think it's a good mattress that feels it will last, but as with the Soft, the top layer materials feel too warm for both of us. We have added multiple toppers of our own to create our own customizable "pillow top"--partly because the Estate Medium feels a little too firm for our liking, and because the mattress is just too toasty without a topper. With a 2" layer of foam topper (non-memory foam) and a 2" soft latex topper and a quilted mattress pad atop all of that, I am getting a fairly comfortable sleep now, both in terms of temperature and cushioning.
Do I think a person should have to go to all these lengths to get cool, comfortable, and pain-free on a $2500 mattress? No. But is it a reality in today's mattress landscape? Sadly, I think so. I've had mattresses that cost 1/3 of the price or less than this one, and each of those lasts about 3 years before getting a divot or hammocking effect. So the way I see it, you either spend more and hope it lasts longer, or you get a cheaper mattress but have to go shopping every 3 years. Or you get something good quality but a little too firm and you cushion it up yourself, which is what we're doing now.
As for customer service and delivery we have found it to be excellent, no complaints. ”

Good firm innerspring design, even for side sleepers

“Great sleep so far, with deeper REM sleep noted. I can tell because I have normal temporary "sleep paralysis," which is most noticeable upon awakening from deep REM sleep in the morning. My arms feel quite numb for a minute or so when waking up. This is from the physiology of the REM sleep state of active brain, combined with "paralyzed" skeletal muscle. I've noticed it in the past, but is much more pronounced using this new firm Estate mattress. Good job, I just hope the springs stay strong over the coming years of use. Also, there is a nice bounce to the design along with good isolation from bed partner movement. Also, it sleeps cool enough on my platform frame; however I did design the slats with wide openings for maximum breathability. The small screen vents on the mattress sides are a nice detail.”

Estate Firm PT too firm for me

“Super heavy high quality mattress, but after two months , it had little give. If you need a super firm mattress for back sleeping, this is it. But, sleeping on my side but my pressure points (hips and shoulders) were very sore and often my arms fell asleep. We are on the small and medium size scale. We added a memory foam topper and a down topper..but decided this firm mattress wasn't a good fit. The mattress itself is very heavy, it took some effort to tuck in sheets and blankets. On the plus side, after two months there were no indents from sleeping.
I just exchanged for Estate Lux in the Medium pillowtop,an immediate difference in comfort and sleeping for me. ”

From Waterbed to Estate Collection Firm with Love ❤️

“I had been sleeping on a waveless waterbed for the last 41 years, but I could no longer deal with cleaning under the bed and emptying it to have new flooring installed. So, buying a conventional mattress was very traumatic! I visited one bedding store and tested the Stearns and Foster mattresses in various firmnesses. I was surprised that the Estate mattress in Firm would be the most comfortable, but I knew as soon as I laid upon it that it was perfect. What sealed the deal was the ability to have an adjustable bed frame, allowing me to raise the head and feet of the mattress. I had to buy new fitted sheets because of the depth of the mattress, but it was a small price to pay for the added comfort.
I love sitting up in bed and reading or watching television. It is so comfortable that I have totally forgotten about my old waterbed.
By the way, the freight company who delivered the bed had the nicest people install it in my upstairs bedroom. Plus, they hauled away my old (empty) waterbed!
I have been telling my friends about my experience ordering the Stearns and Foster mattress online and definitely recommend it.

“This is our first Stearns & Foster mattress. We purchased the Lux Estate Medium Tight Top, which is a bit firmer than anticipated, however our sleep has been very restful. We have different sleep preferences including back, side and belly, but the medium firm has met all our needs for comfort and support. The tufted design in the medium firm Tight Top creates a network of 'shallow divits', which are felt when changing limb positions, but in time I am noticing them less. The motion transfer is very minimal, and their is no noticable off-gassing. Overall it is a beautifully constructed, high quality mattress, with great attention to detail. Our only negative experience was our delivery did not arrive before Christmas as anticipated, however our concerns were addressed in the end by customer service.

“After 12+ years we were ready for a new mattress. In our advanced years, we recognized this would probably be our last mattress. The salesman left it to us to decide what was right for us. After we got it down to the last two in consideration, we were more focused on comfort and support. “I had hip replacement surgery a while back and slept on a new Serta mattress. My hip seemed to hurt daily! Last March I had to get my other hip replaced, I was miserable the pain during waking hours and my sleep pattern (always broken) was unbearable. I had a Sternsandfoster. 30 years ago and loved it!! I decided it’s time to try your companies bed again. Guess what?? I am sleeping through the night and no pain upon waking up!! Sooo to all prosthetic hip replacement seniors this IS the real deal!! “This Estate mattress has a 12" wide strip across where there is a giant indent, it's especially bad smack in the center of the bed. I couldn't figure out why my back was hurting. I would wake up in the morning completely bent over and not be able to straighten out for a couple of hours. I finally figured out that it's the mattress, It has huge indents where there is no support! After taking all the sheets off and pushing on the different areas of the mattress, I noticed his stripe across the entire mattress which is almost like it's been folded there and the springs have separated. Basically, what happens is your body parked in that area will completely sink in and become deformed to the rest of your body. So that was what was happening to me. I had the worst back pain after buying this mattress for about 2 years. I just figured out The source of my back pain and it's the bed.
It's so unfortunate: this was supposed to be a gift to myself and it's been a lemon.

Diagnosed, treated, and chronic.We have used our LuxEstate Pillow Top Firm for 28 days so far.I’m not going to tell you are backs are cured. They never will be. BUT from day one we noticed a difference that only got better as days went by. No other lifestyle changes period. The MOST AMAZING SLEEP SURFACE we have EVER slept on. And we have gone through at least four different mattress “systems” in the past 30+ years. I laid on it on my back the day it was delivered while the sheet set we got as a bonus was being laundered. When my wife walked into the bedroom and caught me exactly what I said to her was “Honey, this mattress KNOWS me.”

I really like my new mattress

“I started off with a Bed Tech copper lux soft mattress. We had a cold winter and my bedroom became cold. The Bed Tech mattress turned hard as a brick. I was miserable. I then tried a medium firmness Tempur-Pedic supreme overlay for the Bed Tech mattress. I I was miserable because it was too firm. I then tried an Adapt Tempur-Pedic overlay for the mattress. That was not comfortable either. I then went with a Saatva overlay for the mattress. That did not work and was not soft enough. Saatva then told me to order a feather overlay for the Saatva overlay mattress. I was sent two and both of them were contaminated with horrible odors that I could not use. I was so uncomfortable that I decided to get rid of everything and start all over again. I went with a full Estate soft pillow top. I love it. At first it was somewhat firmer than I liked but I have had it now for about 40 days and it is getting very soft and comfortable. I am now comfortable and am looking forward to going to bed rather than dreading it. It was expensive and a big financial burden but it is worth a good nights sleep. ”

Firm Hurts My Back and Hips

“I am 62 and bought the Estate Collection Firm Pillow Top mattress with adjustable frame 127 days ago. My old mattress was soft and caused back and hip pain so I opted for the mattress with the firm topper. I am a back and side sleeper. Although the mattress initially felt comfortable and luxurious it started agitating my back and hips and I feel pain within 10 minutes of getting up in the morning that lasts all day. Unfortunately, I cannot return the mattress (trial period expired) and it was a very expensive purchase for me. I’m considering buying a Tempur-Pedic topper to see if that gives my back and hips some relief. I wish I had purchased a mattress with a medium topper instead. The medium one may have given me that hotel level luxury sleep I was striving for.”

“We bought the softer SF mattress and was disappointed that the pillow top began to crater after just 3 days. After 60 days, we just couldn't roll out of the crater and decided to get the other mattress that didn't have such a thick pillow top. Now that we've got 30 days into the Estate mattress, it has maintained it's firmness. The problem is that it's way too firm. I am buying a topper in hopes of getting some releif because I can't sleep on it anymore, just too painful. I hope the premium topper provides a better durability thank the SF first mattress. I just can't take it.”

Now, after 4 weeks, this mattress is showing body indentions also! I am petite, 5'2" 112 lb. and my husband is 5'6", 160 lb. So, we are hoping the top will even out but not banking on it. Very disappointed given this is the second mattress and the price of both. Basically, what should be a wonderful experience (getting a new mattress) has turned into a sad experience. ”

The "SF Estate Soft" mattress is actually a "firm" mattress but is very comfortable; not too firm and not too soft. We paired it with an adjustable frame and enjoy the ability to choose a slightly inclined position for the head and foot area. I think we made a good choice for ourselves. Stearns and Foster has been in business many decades and if their mattresses were not superior, I don't think they would still be in business.”

“It is too squishy and is far from firm. It is also extremely hot to sleep on. It cannot be flipped, however we do, because the side without the foam is more comfortable and less hot. In short, you'd be better off financially and loads more comfortable buying a futon and sleeping on that.
This mattress has changed my life by causing me to wake up every morning with a backache. I haven't had a good night's sleep since we purchased it. I am tired, achy and grumpy. “The last mattress I purchased was rated high in consumer magazines and by customer reviews and initially, it was, but it failed shortly afterward. While I do not enjoy firm the medium should remain medium - this one did not. In researching this mattress the Plush (medium firmness) sounded good and reports seemed to back it up. After going to a few stores I found this mattress and a salesman with years of experience.
"The Plush", he said was the mattress for me. Why not try out the Plush and then any number of comparable medium-firmness mattresses? I did go back and forth, it was like trying to find the shoe for me. After a long while of testing out mattresses, I found one I believe comfort was beyond expectations!”

Uncomfortable and varied sleep surface

“This mattress does not feel the same on both sides(even after turning). It can be uncomfortable especially sleeping on my side. The mattress could not have been made with the materials being placed equally. There is a definite difference from one side to the other, which I still haven't gotten used to and after almost 6 months it is not an overall comfortable sleep. If I could just sleep on my back it would be OK, but that is hard to do. I am not happy with this mattress, and would not recommend this mattress. Also it is very heavy!(150 pounds), makes it hard to change the sheets and tuck the clean ones back in. I spent a lot on this mattress, too much to just give away and buy a less expensive mattress that would probably be more comfortable. Oh well not much I can do and sadly I will have to endure this mattress every night.”

Sagging - Warrantly Claim after 11 months

“Despite rotating often we started to experience sagging and reduced support within roughly 6 months . Rotating would help for maybe a week. We hit the 11 month mark and starting a warranty claim today. I didn't realize how bad it was until I went to measure for the claim. The bed sags on average 1.25" - 1.7" inches across. We each weigh roughly the same, ~140 lbs. We really hoped this was going to be our "10 year" bed with the high cost. Turns out you don't always get what you pay for.”

“The bed mattress is great quality. My only problem is the break-in period for the bed to it to start conforming to our bodies. Even after may years the entire surface will not be broke inThe display one at NFM was great, but here at home I have a feeling it will take months for it to settle in. I still believe the model one at NFM from the manufacturer has been treated different in the respect it had been rolled on mechanically by a plastic or steel drum from side to side and top to bottom.There is no way at NFM, even with the multitude of people that has been on it for 2-10 minutes periodically that could make the mattress overall feel that good. I wish they offered a way even if you had to pay for it additionally to get the membrane "broke-in".”

We selected our new mattress after a bit of research, but we stuck with Stearns and Foster. Our new mattress is a wonderful replacement for our old mattress with the new Euro top over the firm mattress. It is so comfortable and great for my back and the rest of my body. It provides a wonderful night's sleep.

A wonderful purchase

“We had a very old mattress and I was waking up with hip and shoulder pain. My husband was also waking with shoulder pain. We shopped for mattresses for a long time. I knew this mattress was right for me the first time I sat on it. I was hesitant to purchase this mattress because I prefer a firm mattress and my husband prefers a softer memory foam mattress. It took me a year to make a decision. The estate firm with pillow top was a compromise. We were advised the first few weeks the mattress may feel too stiff. However, it only took about 3 to 4 nights for us to settle in. I no longer wake up with hip or shoulder pain and neither does my husband. We are very pleased with this purchase. I absolutely love this new mattress.

“I just got a new (and different) mattress and felt this huge pang for my old Stearns and Foster Estate, which has been great for 37 (!) years. Its support and edge solidity lasted almost to the very end. Somehow I got the impression that S & F didn't make full mattresses anymore -- but that's the Lux Estate. In any case, I have had trouble finding a mattress that is as firm and supportive as the one I had, and may have to retreat from my new purchase. There's nothing I didn't love about my old one -- except its weight, which as I have gotten older, has made putting the sheets on harder. But the weight also gave it a great feel.”

Too hard to sleep on without toppers

“Mattress feels high-quality, solid, well-constructed. Unfortunately, sleeping on it caused significant pains in back, shoulders, legs, hips, and calves. Finally were able to sleep comfortably after adding 4" of additional toppers, plus an additional 2"-4" of mattress pads. After researching Estate Collection, was surprised to learn "Medium" Estate is built *without* a top comfort layer, thus making the mattress feel harder than a "Firm" model - but explaining its surprisingly lower price than "Soft" and "Firm" models. Going forward, will treat this mattress as a "base layer," rather than the solution to our long-time problem of finding an expensive mattress that sleeps perfectly out of the box.”

“I was having significant lower back pain, and waking up not well rested. Turned out my mattress wasn't holding up well after only 3 years. Time for a change, and after careful studying the options for a King / Cal King size mattress with a 3k max. budget, I settled on the Cal King S&F Estate, Medium Tight Top. I'm tall and weigh well over 200lbs, so it's supportive in all sleeping positions yet definitely not too firm. It doesn't take too much turning and tossing anymore to fall asleep. And no more back ache or extended soreness in the legs. A minus point for the Cal King bedding bundle though, with sheets too small for the Cal King size mattress. Also the pillows are thinner and less supportive than I expected. So I had to swap those out and can't really use.

“I’m a single big guy at 6’4” and 250 lbs. And had a hard time finding a firm enough mattress that wasn’t like laying on concrete. This Stearns and Foster mattress is the perfect blend of comfort and support for back or side sleeping. It provides a good night’s sleep! And i don’t sag into it while sitting to get dressed.
It has a slight crowned effect in the middle that seems to feel like like I’m on a slight slant. Stearns and Foster says this will go away over time as I break it in sleeping in different locations on the bed, but my cpap hose prevents me from reaching the other side, and I’m not strong enough to spin the mattress end to end. ”

I was diagnosed with osteoporosis in my spine & hips last month which causes me to have back pain. My husband has severe knee pain. “After 12 years my prior Stearns & Foster Estate needed to be retired. I knew without a doubt that I wanted another. I did research and found the mattress I wanted but decided to see if I could keep my money local. My husband and I went to two furniture stores. Both stores told us that the mattress I wanted was not available nor orderable and attempted to sell us something I didn’t want. The first thing I did upon returning home was order the mattress from the Stearns & Foster website. Within two weeks the mattress was delivered. I absolutely LOVE it! I sleep so good that I don’t want to get out in the morning. The mattress provides the support I need for my back plus is soft enough that I feel as if I’m cradled all night long. The comfort level is not too firm as the pillowtop adds just enough softness for a little give. We are 2 different types of sleepers, one is a side sleeper who tends to move frequently through the night while the other is primarily a stomach sleeper. We are both sleeping well on the new mattress; feeling motion when one or the other moves around throughout the night is also greatly reduced. One thing that influenced our decision was the side support when sitting on the side of the bed. Too many mattresses sink when sitting on the side, but this one supports with little sinking. ”

I even tossed a kink in the deal as the delivery date was sent to me, but we were having new floors put down and had to delay for a week. “I purchased this in the full size for a spare bedroom to try it out before committing to a king-size. I have long-standing back pain and most mattresses I've tried start losing support pretty quickly, they get that valley in them, and I only weigh about 120. I've been sleeping on this mattress for about a month - it's incredibly comfortable, and I wake up with no back pain. There was no smell and it doesn't get hot (had both of those issues with other mattresses). It's pricy but to sleep well is worth it! Worth noting - it's also incredibly heavy so make sure you know where you want delivery to put it - moving the bed or changing it to another room definitely takes two people.”

It’s the perfect balance: firm support underneath keeps my back aligned, but the top layer has a plush, comfortable feel that makes it easy to relax into sleep. (Side note: I tried the pillow top firm in store and i personally thought the pillow top was too squishy. This mattress without the pillow top is perfect for me because i like a firm feel.)
As someone who usually sleeps hot, I was surprised by how breathable this mattress is. it really helps regulate temperature well and i don’t wake up sweaty.

“We've been sleeping on our new Estate Firm Pillowtop mattress for about a month now and we're yet to find a downside. It's completely supportive, yet the top makes it comfortable enough to sleep on your side. This type of mattress came as a recommendation of a chiropractor, and it turned out to be just right. Bonus: my husband sleeps on the very edge of the bed, and while most mattrasses tend to slope down, this one has coils all the way to the edge, it's fantastic!”

“I was looking for a firm mattress, like a hard mattress. Apparently, they don't exist anymore. This is my second SF mattress, and the firmest they offered. It is taking me a while to get used to a foam top. I am a stomach sleeper and like a firmer mattress, but there doesn't seem to be any firmer options. I was told some people consider the foam toppers to make for a warmer sleep. I told them I was cold natured, so It wouldn't be a problem. Well it does in 100 degree Texas heat. I'm hoping winter will be perfect. I would recommend this mattress with some caveats. Not great for stomach sleepers or hot sleepers.”

“I am mostly a side sleeper and this mattress was quite comfortable. I woke up so much less achy in my neck, back and shoulders. I slept "cool" and fell asleep more quickly...which was unusual for me.
This 14.5" thick mattress worked very well with the adjustable base.
Having the 2 twin xl mattresses to form a king size bed posed the issue of how to get the sheets on in the middle...we found out how useful the adjustable base was for this task!! (Purchased twin xl fitted sheets and used the king flat sheets I already had)
This turned out to be a very high quality purchase all around.”

Will need to exchange it for one without any foam. Hubby loves the way it supports and is comfortable, just way too hot even with the cooling mattress pad purchased from Mattress Firm.
I would recommend this mattress for side and back sleepers who like firm support. However, just not for people who sleep hot.”

“From the first night, Ive found this mattress set to be well-worth the money, in comfort.
It appears well-constructed and has a nice aesthetic appearance.
My one great concern: as new as this mattress set is, a month, I already can see my body indent on the surface. This issue concerns me as to longevity of the product and its continued comfort levels. I did not expect this to be the case so soon.
I do not believe it’s due to anything related to size or weight, as I only weigh 130lbs.
Because this mattress isn’t able to be flipped, only table-top turned, I only have one option to distribute wear.
I am hopeful this indenting will remain minimal, if not, I will have to utilize the warranty.
But, again, I am overall quite pleased and have been getting great sleep in comfort. ”

We find that our limbs fall asleep because there is just not enough give in the mattress.
