Worst mattress I’ve ever owned

“I’ll start off by saying I am 30 years old, at 6’1 and weigh 188. I tend to sleep in any position: front, side, or back. I was diagnosed with degenerative disc disease when I was about 24. I was experiencing very bad back problems, and with that, my sleep was suffering, so I began searching for a new mattress.
Tempur-Pedic has to be paying their marketing team a great sum. When I was mattress searching about 5-6 years ago, that’s all I was seeing across different review sites, sponsored ads on Google, etc. At this point, after a week of doing some research, I’m only seeing good things, and I purchased a queen Luxe Adapt from a local mattress store.
So after about $5000 USD, we get the bed delivered, set up, and the whole shebang. I’m extremely excited. I ordered a firm Tempur-Pedic that should support my back and hips, and I might start sleeping again.
Boy, was I wrong. The first night, I vividly remember having trouble falling asleep because of how excited I was to hopefully catch up on some sleep. I eventually ended up falling asleep and waking up about an hour and a half later to extreme pain in my lower back. It was about 1 a.m., and I was so tired that all I wanted to do was sleep. Where I was sleeping sank in so much that there was 0 support for my hips andlower back. Keep in mind I bought the firm option.
My wife sleeps with me, so I end up sleeping on the couch that night. I wake up and do some more research, along with calling the mattress store. The sales lady tells me my body will take time adjusting to the new mattress and to give it 3-4 weeks for my back to properly adjust to it.
So I listened. I kept attempting to sleep on the Tempur-Pedic but kept waking up in extreme pain. I ended up calling again, telling the same sales person the issues, and they recommended the adjustable frame. I bought that because I just want to sleep. It’s something to me that’s priceless. At this point, I’ll do anything to sleep.
So we get the adjustable frame set up. I give it another go, and the same problem. Extreme pain in the same spot.
At this point, the 60-day return period has expired, and they were not taking anything back. So I just spent around $6000 for a mattress and a frame that is giving me the worst experience of my life.
I’m tight with my money, so this was a big defeat to me. I just bit the bullet and tried finding any way to get comfortable in the Tempur-Pedic. I would take my ibuprofen right before bed, have one set up for when I woke up in pain, and had a stretch routine. Time kept passing, but I really didn’t want to be out that much money.
Years pass, and my back has not improved. I move between the couch and the Tempur-Pedic to get a couple of hours of sleep a night. I was averaging about 2-4 hours a night up until recently.
I spent about $2.5k on a different brand mattress (not going to name it here because I’m not pushing another brand, but people need to know what Tempur-Pedic is), and I have been getting the best sleep of my life. I am SO thankful I found it, but I am just now to the point where I feel like a normal person that’s able to sleep.
I felt the need to write a review for anyone else that may be experiencing back issues and is thinking of getting a Tempur-Pedic. I would save your money and look elsewhere. There are many other brands that help with hip/back pain. This one does not.”

“I've slept on on it for 40 days or so at this point and I've never had a worse go at it. I don't know what the issue is outside of the fact that the mattress is rock hard and hard to relax on. It also feels like my hip is on a bar and wont sink in to the mattress which I suspect in the 5 zones not being in the right spot for someone 5'1. My husband is 5'10, we both side sleep, he has to keep his pillow about 6 inches below the top of the mattress because of the zoning and his hip sticks out as well. I think on average we both get about 5 hours of sleep and feel like death warmed over.”

Best most pain relieving mattress ever!!!

“I have slept on Tempurpedic for going on 25 years now and will not ever buy another type of mattress! I just purchased a new King LuxeAdapt Firm 2.0 and had the best sleep last night ever! I am 72 years old and fell about 2 days ago bruising my left side badly and couldn't seem to stop the pain. I slept on that new mattress last night and swear I am a new woman, my body has no pain whatsoever, it is like I never had the injury. My right leg was giving me constant pain as well and now that has subsided. My old tempurpedic split king mattress was 24 1/2 years old so I am sure it had given me the best years and was needing retirement! lol I love these mattresses and since you spend a third of your life in bed, why not have the best sleep that a mattress can supply. I am very active for my age and still do it all. I don't intend to give up easy and feel now I have a new lease on life!!! Thank you Tempurpedic for all you have done!!!! There is nothing I would change on this mattress and I think I have chosen well!”

In the morning I realize that I've sunk about an inch into the mattress. Guess I've been swaddled like a baby. If I want to stay in bed a few more minutes and move to the other side it feels like lifting myself over a little hump.”

“No breaking in period for me. I was coming from a 14 year old spring mattress & the difference is astounding. I tested out all Tempur-pedic mattresses in my local store. I knew the firmer the better & the Luxe Adapt Firm is perfect. At first when rolling into bed it almost feels like laying down on a gym mat. But only for a second, suddenly the area my body is on softens just enough to support me comfortably. I used to toss and turn many times before falling asleep as a side sleeper. Not on this. The comfort makes me fall asleep rather quickly, and through the night as well. It's been about a week now. Every morning I have woken up refreshed, and back not stiff and achy like it was with my last mattress. The temperature part is not a problem. The cover has some ventilation, the waterproof mattress protector also has some cooling properties. After laying in one spot long enough I suppose it does warm up but not uncomfortably since I have ac running all night anyway (living in FL), and a fan as well. I will try bamboo sheet, as I have heard those help in that area as well. Overall, this has been a very wise investment for me. I spend 1/3 of my life on a mattress, and the quality of that affect my physical & mental comfort the rest of the day. The Tempur-pedic Luxe Adapt Firm has been a game changer for me.”

Oddly Firm and Forgiving at the Same Time

I tried the LuxeAdapt Firm in the store and couldn't believe the support I was getting (I have back and neck issues). About a month in and it's pretty rough

“I think that they really made a mistake with the 5 pressure zones on their luxe model. As my mattress has broken in it's gotten significantly less comfortable where I wake up in pain multiple times thought out the night.
I could tell when the mattress first arrived that to fit my shoulder in the proper space I had to be a few inches down from the headboard. That's how pronounced the difference is from head to shoulder zone. Unfortunately as it broke in it became apparent that the zones are just not fitted to my body.
I'm a 5'10 male with a normal to long torso, so fairly average size.
My wife knew off the bat it didn't work for her (we have separate beds). She's 5'1 with a short torso.
If you move at all when you're asleep you absolutely feel it if you wake up crooked.
I hope that anyone else that orders this mattress has a significantly better experience than I do but I frankly don't expect this mattress to be available for long given the pain I've started waking up with.
I've put in for an exchange and am hopeful the pro adapt medium will be good enough, compared to this as it will be a final sale as an exchange.”

Rejuvenating Mattress!

“I had a 15 year old standard double pillow topped mattress & am 51, not the ideal combo for avoiding back pain. I almost dreaded going to bed and made a habit of staying up later than I should to be as tired as possible going to bed. Otherwise, constant tossing & turning (side sleeper) would make going to sleep difficult. Waking up at least once a night & awaking feeling the opposite of rested was what I had gotten used to. But also starting each day with a stiff achy lower back was becoming too common and I finally went to my local Mattress Firm. It didn't take long to go from the budget standard mattresses to the Tempur-pedic section. The Pro Adapt Firm & Luxe Adapt Firm were my top two choices, easily. I am glad I went with the Luxe Adapt and there was no "breaking in" period.for me. The first night was the best sleep I have had probably since childhood. No tossing & turning. I slide in and love how firm it is, almost like laying on a gym mat. But the magical part is how the bed softens just a wee bit around my body and the level of comfort is amazing. Every night so far I have fallen asleep rather quick, slept through the night, and awoke refreshed and ready to get up for another day. No stiff/achy lower back. It is like this mattress has made me feel 15 years younger lol. This kind of sleep also has other perks like my mood is better, I feel more alert during the day. I can't believe I waited this long & endured that old mattress way past its expiration date. I now enjoy going to bed each night. This is a rather expensive mattress compared to other brands but the reputation Tempur-pedic has makes this one of the best investments in my well being I have ever made. Anyone considering this should definitely go to a store and test it & other versions (soft, medium, hybrid), this isn't for everyone. But damn, it is easily the most comfortable mattress I have ever slept on.”

Had a 10 year warranty on it and it sagged so exchanged it under the warranty for the temper Lux adapt firm. I slept heavenly for the first time in years months really. It slept like a dream. I love it. I am going to so enjoy it. I am so happy I found this brand and this particular mattress now I look forward to sleeping at night and not having to get up with pain and move to sleep on the floor. “I bought this mattress thinking it would last longer, since it was about 4k. It's about a year old and there's already such a dip in the hip area that I cannot get or stay comfortable. I work for a company that sells tempur-pedic Mattress, and yet I paid full price and the mattress is failing within a year. I'll be paying this if for years to come and I Absolutely hate it! It's overly hot, it's support system is so soft in the hip area I can literally feel it's collapsed under the comfort layers, but it's not showing a visible sag, so I guess I'm just out of luck. Never again. And I won't be recommending Tempur-Pedic to any of my customers moving forward.”

good choice for side sleeper w back issues

“if you're reading this you might know the drill. side sleepers need something soft enough to avoid numb arms, but our backs feel better with firm. there is a definitely break-in period and the off-gassing is pretty bad for a few days but the tempur material definitely achieves the lofty goal of giving me pain relief without being too firm for arms and shoulders. I think this has zoned support which explains it too.”
